Ability Now Celebrates New Name, New Direction
Ability Now celebrated our new name and planned expansion to the Tri-valley with a community outreach event on Saturday, May 7th. Over 100 family and community members enjoyed the rainy afternoon with hors d’oeuvres, wine and wine tasting from Rosenblum Cellars, beer from Alameda Brewing Company and music from Tracy Blackman.
Guests perused artwork that Monique Harris, an Ability Now participant, had for sale, as well as the raffle items that could be theirs with the winning ticket. Later in the afternoon, Michael Hunt from Mayor Libby Schaaf’s office presented Ability Now’s executive director, Leslie Werosh, with a proclamation from the Mayor’s office declaring May 7th as “Ability Now Bay Area Day”.
The presentation was followed by a tour of Ability Now’s programs and services for our guests, which included representatives from the offices of Assemblymember Rob Bonta and Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, who were incredibly impressed by our center. The celebration ended with the announcement of the raffle winners – with three of the five winners being participants of Ability Now!
We want to thank our sponsors and donors of our event – Kaiser Permanente, the Swenson Group, Rosenblum Cellars, and Alameda Brewing Company, we greatly appreciate the support they have shown us. We also want to thank everyone who attended our Grand Re-opening and Community Outreach event, we could not do what we do without you!
